Photo Of Server Sitting In Restaurant Ice Maker Causes A Stir
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- An impromptu late night photo shoot now has some local restaurant employees on thin ice. A picture was snapped at the Cheesecake Factory next to Arden Fair Mall, and then it started spreading around the country.
A Cheesecake Factory server was photographed sitting on ice in the ice maker. Matt Evans who's a server at the Cheesecake Factory on Arden Way in Sacramento, says he posted the picture on Facebook.
Evans says the girl who is sitting on the ice is also a server at the restaurant. He says the picture was taken an hour after the restaurant had shut down for the night. And he only snapped the photo because his friend was making a funny face. Evans then posted it on Facebook for the world to see, not knowing that some people would have a negative reaction.
"That's definitely a violation of the food code," said one Sacramento resident.
Sacramento County Health inspectors say if they saw this, they'd require the restaurant to throw out all the ice and scrub down the ice maker.
"It's no different than picking up a hamburger and wiping it on your shoulder and then putting it back on your plate. Does that sound disgusting?" said a Sacramento County Health inspector.
The Cheesecake Factory issued this statement saying:
"We have recently become aware of a photo that allegedly depicts a staff member engaging in conduct that is certainly not in compliance with our high standards and code of conduct. This matter will be fully investigated and the appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken."
