Pedestrians Targeted In Davis Crime Trend
DAVIS, Calif. (CBS13) -- Authorities are looking for a large group of suspects who robbed a number of victims within minutes of each other, including two foreign exchange students who arrived in America less than a week ago.
Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov said two carloads of suspects -- about six to 10 men in total -- attacked a group of Norwegian students who had just left a downtown bar.
The attackers demanded the victims' wallets and cell phones and began beating them when they did not comply, according to Ole Houg.
"Then they just started pounding me and hitting me, hitting all my friends as well," Houg said. "They were trying to take my phone, so I was just holding onto my phone."
The suspects drove off and attacked another two students a short distance away, just "minutes later," Lt. Doroshov said.
The assaults are similar to other robberies of pedestrians that have been reported recently, authorities said.
The suspects are described as a group of African American or Latino males riding in a white sedan or tan SUV.
One victim was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, authorities said.
