Off-Duty Officer Hit By Alleged Drunk Driver

ROSEVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) -- A man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after hitting and seriously injuring an off-duty Sacramento police officer near a Roseville restaurant.

The officer, identified as 47-year-old Detective Bobby Daniels, was standing in front of the Chili's restaurant on Blue Oaks Boulevard just before 2:00 p.m. when the driver of a 1993 Jeep SUV lost control while making a turn onto Fairway Drive and jumped onto the sidewalk.

Daniels was thrown into the Jeep's windshield by the impact and then pulled underneath the car, which dragged him back onto the roadway.

The 15-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department was rushed to the hospital for treatment for serious head injuries, including a skull fracture.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Ilia Arthur Wong of Rocklin, was booked into the Roseville City Jail on $50,000 bail on charges of driving while intoxicated.

A section of southbound Fairway Drive south of Blue Oaks Boulevard was closed Saturday evening while authorities investigated.
