North Sacramento Man Accused Of Killing Cat
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A man is facing charges of animal cruelty after allegedly killing a neighborhood cat with his bare hands and throwing it into the street, authorities said.
Mark Parton, 47, tossed cat litter and a box over the dead animal and then walked back into his apartment as if nothing had happened, according to neighbors.
"I walked out here and it was just laying here on the street," said neighbor Joseph Webb. "It was pretty disturbing."
Children lifted up the box and found the cat, which they called "lovable" and "playful" when they encountered it in the past.
Neighbors said they believe Parton is schizophrenic.
"When the cops went over to arrest him and talked to him about it he said that he had to kill the cat because the cat was going to kill him," said Colleena Ritchie.
Parton is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a felony charge of animal cruelty. His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
