NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) — CHP rescue crews worked with Nevada County Fire to rescue a gold panner who was stuck on a rock in the Yuba River overnight Tuesday.
The CHP - Valley Division Air Operations said the gold panner suffered medical complications after getting stuck on the rock. A firefighter-paramedic from the North Tahoe Fire Protection District was hoisted onto the rock to assess the patient and help hoist her from the rock.
Helicopter Rescues Gold Panner
Tuesday afternoon, CHP Helicopter (H-20) responded with Nevada County Fire near the town of Washington. In the Yuba River, a gold panner had become stuck on a rock overnight and suffered from medical complications. Firefighter/ Paramedic Allen Whisler from North Tahoe Fire Protection District was hoisted onto the rock. Firefighter Whisler quickly assessed the patient and assisted H-20 with hoisting her from the rock. She was transferred to a ground ambulance for transport to a local hospital.
Firefighter Allen is a Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT) with the Lake Tahoe Regional Rescue Team. This team is comprised of fire personnel from; North Tahoe, Truckee, Squaw Valley, and North Star Fire Departments. These firefighters are highly trained at enacting rescues in the most austere environments.
