Modesto Pair Suspected Of 3 Crimes In 12 Hours

MODESTO (CBS13) — A man and a woman are suspected of holding up a Subway restaurant and a Shell gas station and also burglarizing a Modesto home — all in a 12-hour time period.

Modesto Police officers were called to the Shell Express Mart at 1432 9th Street at about 7:19 a.m. on Thursday on the report of a robbery. Witnesses say a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Kristie Corn of Modesto, entered the store with a handgun and demanded money, then fled in a red Ford Mustang.

An officer spotted the Mustang near Locust Street before it pulled into an alley. Officers stopped the car and arrested Corn and 18-year-old Brad Gomes, also of Modesto, without incident.

Police recovered a replica handgun and money from the robbery. During their investigation, officers identified Corn as the suspect in the Subway restaurant robbery at 822 Kansas Avenue at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers also implicated Corn and Gomes in a residential robbery earlier Thursday morning, before the Shell robbery.

Corn and Gomes were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail and charged with two counts of robbery, residential burglary, conspiracy and probation violations.
