Massive Tree Topples In Fair Oaks, Blocking Roadway

FAIR OAKS (CBS13) – A massive tree toppled overnight in Fair Oaks, blocking several lanes of a busy roadway and knocking out power to some customers.

The 100-year-old tree fell overnight on Winding Way and Greenvale Road just east of Fair Oaks Boulevard, startling people who live nearby.

"We thought a gun shot went off, and it turns out it must have been the core of the giant oak tree snapping," said a man who lives in the area. "It was into a telephone pole down the street here and so it will probably be closed until about noon."

It's unclear what caused the tree to fall.

Crews were working to clean up the tree before they reopen Winding Way to drivers.
