Man Shot By Sacramento Sheriff's Deputies ID'd
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities have released the name of the man shot by Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies early Tuesday morning.
The coroner's office identified the man as 29-year-old Miguel Eduardo Negrete of Sacramento.
Sheriff's officials say the two deputies opened fire after Negrete pointed a gun at them. They encountered Negrete in the middle of a street in south Sacramento after responding to multiple reports of a man with a gun around 12:05 a.m.
A passer-by in a vehicle said a man had pointed a gun at him. Callers also reported a man shooting out vehicle windows and holding a female hostage at gunpoint.
Investigators are still trying to determine the events that preceded the shooting.
But Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos said it does appear that Negrete held a gun to a woman's head.
