Man Pulled From Burning Modesto Hotel Room Dies
MODESTO (CBS) - A man who was revived after being trapped inside of a burning Modesto hotel room has died.
Shortly before midnight, Modesto firefighters responded to a fire at Apex Inn on Yosemite Boulevard. When they arrived, they saw smoke coming from around a window of a unit. A resident broke the window and thick smoke poured out, according to a statement from the Modesto Fire Department.
Firefighters initially had trouble entering the unit because it appeared that all the furniture of the unit was piled up against the door. Inside, they found a man near the bathroom and pulled him out. He did not have a pulse.
EMS personnel were able to revive the man who was then taken to a hospital in critical condition. Battalion Chief Tim Tietjen reported on Monday afternoon the victim had died. His identity has not been released.
The fire was contained to just one unit. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $5,000.
