Long-Time Sacramento Church Being Evicted At End Of Year
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Consumers and businesses are not the only victims of our nation's financial woes. One of the strongest inter-faith churches in Sacramento is being evicted from its home of 12 years and the struggling economy is to blame.
Over the years, Spiritual Life Center in midtown Sacramento has grown to a congregation of 1,000. And it has been perfectly happy to sharing the space with another church.
But now, the normal sense of peace and comfort at this place of worship is being replaced with a sense of uncertainty.
"I know where we'll be at Christmas," said Michael Moran, founding minister at Spiritual Life Center. "I have no idea where we're going to be at Easter."
After 12 years worshiping at its current home, Spiritual Life has until Dec. 31 to get out. The church's lease is not being renewed.
The building's owner, Pioneer Church, says it needs to find a full-time tenant to raise revenue in these difficult times.
But for the church the decision couldn't come at a worse time.
"This is the busiest time of the year for any church, Christmas time," said Moran. "This is a time when we're really having to put our faith in action."
Spiritual Life Center is looking for any church-sharing opportunities -- preferably in the Midtown area.
"So ideally a church or a synagogue or a beautiful meeting space will open up for us," said Moran.
And something may already be happening. Spiritual Life Center leaders say they were contacted Wednesday evening by another church that may be interested in sharing a space with them.
