Lathrop Teacher Being Investigated For Inappropriate Conduct With Student
LATHROP (CBS13) - A second-year teacher at Lathrop High School is on paid administrative leave following a pair of investigations into inappropriate conduct involving a teenage girl.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department confirms that along with the Manteca Unified School District, detectives are investigating allegations involving the teacher and Lathrop High student, but because they are still looking into the claim, investigators aren't releasing details.
Silence from the school district and deputies is only fueling the rumor mill at the school.
Students tell CBS13 the girl told them the incident happened during an out-of-town volleyball tournament.
The district refused to say what led to the investigation.
Some students say the teacher is married with children, and no one noticed anything suspicious in class.
"He was normal, like a regular teacher," one student said.
Some parents and students are not happy the district didn't tell them why the teacher is banned from campus.
The whole ordeal is shocking for many in the small community.
"I wouldn't expect this, especially not Lathrop High," student Oscar Calix said. "It's a really good school and basically every teacher is trusted here."
