Iceland Reopens 10 Months After Fire

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A year after the iconic mainstay was burned to the ground by arson, skaters finally reaped the fruits of volunteers efforts to rebuild the Iceland skating rink.

More than 700 volunteers spent months helping to clean up and rebuild the historic location after the fire on March 28, 2010 razed the structure and ice rink. Workers filled 50 dumpsters with debris and painstakingly brought the decades-old facility back to life.

"I knew there was enough people who cared about the old gal that somehow, we'd put her back on her feet," owner Rob Kerth said.

After navigating a number of roadblocks, Iceland held its grand reopening on Saturday and will also be open on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as part of a fundraiser to help rebuild the structure's roof.

Iceland has been a North Sacramento landmark since 1940.
