Hogan Reservoir Hit With Rash Of Swimmer's Itch Cases
CALAVERAS COUNTY (CBS13) — Hogan Reservoir is dealing with a rash of swimmer's itch as a parasite is making itself at home in the water.
Hot temperatures will send people to the water this weekend, but a parasite might makes things a little itchy.
The reservoir saw some cases last August of the small worms digging into skin and causing itchy rashes. This week, they made a return with two more reported cases.
Kids are most susceptible because they wade in the water in stagnant areas where the parasites like to grow.
Health officials advise people towel dry as soon as they get out of the water and shower as soon as possible to reduce the risk.
The rash will appear within a few hours of getting out of the water and will tingle and burn with tiny, raised bumps. Good news is doctors say it should just run its course.
