High-School Senior Goes All Out In Promposal To UFC Fighter Paige VanZant

SAN MATEO (CBS13) — Prom is right around the corner, and one high-school senior is hoping the magic of YouTube will help him score his dream date.

Brandon Cadiz, 17, came up with a creative way to ask UFC fighter Paige VanZant to his high-school prom.

He spent about four hours over the weekend working on the video, which is now starting to gain some momentum online.

It's a small token of affection that's edited into an elaborate stunt to win over VanZant.

CBS13 first introduced you to the 21-year-old strawweight fighter last month. She trains in Sacramento under Urijah Faber.

Cadiz says he was drawn to VanZant after hearing about her struggles with bullies in high school.

"I can honestly relate to that. In middle school I was somewhat bullied for being a fat and chubby kid, and I came into taking martial arts," he said.

Weaved within his four-minute promposal, the San mateo High senior played on their similarities to bolster his pitch. His closest friends got in on the action too, trying to sell her on the idea one by one.

"She didn't get that opportunity to go to prom and I want to be that guy who takes her to prom and gives her that chance," he said.

But how would he handle defeat? He'll go with a group of friends instead, taking comfort in knowing he left it all on the mat.

"I get that she's busy, but my dream is just for her to see it. And I hope she does," he said.

We reached out to her publicist who says a response will come sometime tomorrow.

The prom is in Oakland on April 9, eight days after Cadiz's 18th birthday.
