Heat Doesn't Stop Special Olympics Torch's Journey To Capitol
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A morning run was a little hotter for a group of joggers with the Special Olympics torch Friday morning.
The torch, also known as the Flame of Hope, made its way from Galt through Elk Grove and ended at the state capitol.
Law enforcement agencies took turns holding the torch while running through the hot streets. It was 73 degrees when the joggers left Galt. By the time they reached the capitol before 10 a.m., the temperature was already close to 90 degrees.
One sweaty officer didn't realize how hot it was going to get when he agreed to run.
"I knew it'd be hot, but I had no idea in June. You never can tell, from rain last weekend to 100 degrees today. We take it as it comes," Elk Grove police Officer Dan Templeton.
The Special Olympics runs through the weekend.
