Friends Of Fatal Motorcycle Crash Victim Offer Forgiveness To Man Accused Of Causing It
FOLSOM (CBS13) — Friends of a man killed on his motorcycle are remembering him and offering their forgiveness to the man accused of causing the deadly crash.
Kaman Hobbs offered his regret after being accused of driving without an active license, slamming directly into a motorcyclist and killing him earlier this week.
In handcuffs, about to be led into the back of a police car on Monday, he was remorseful.
Pastor Glen Brooks of Folsom's Harbor Church was friends for more than 25 years with the victim, 41-year-old Shane Clark.
"He's a great guy. He really had a love for people," he said.
He describes the former Marine and army reservist as part of the family.
"He was very dedicated to his military service," Brooks said.
In fact, Clark had recently returned from service.
"When he got back from that, we thought, 'Oh he's safely home.' So to have him pass away in this surprising, tragic way it is really difficult."
Hobbs faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter and charges of driving without a license after a DUI. Officers also say Hobbs had his child in the Volkswagen car without a seatbelt.
"I'm not frustrated with him, I feel pity for him," Brooks said. "To me there was a sincerity in just being willing to talk about it."
For a man of God, he says there is only one option, to honor his friend.
"I think Shane would want us to forgive him. Shane's a guy who had recognized forgiveness in his own life," Brooks said.
Hobbs remains in jail. A service for Clark will be held in the coming days.
