Fire Damage Forces Temporary Closure Of Wilson Way Bridge
STOCKTON (CBS13) – Stockton's Wilson Way Bridge is closed for emergency repairs after a fire damaged it overnight.
City crews were out Sunday repairing the roadway after a fire broke out early Sunday morning underneath the bridge, which runs over Mormon Slough.
The fire managed to damage the bridge enough for officials to close the roadway for the time being. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area, with southbound traffic being detoured at Hazelton Avenue and northbound traffic detoured at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Truck traffic is being asked to use Airport Way.
Officials expect to have a better idea of when the bridge will be reopened by Monday.
Firefighters suspect the fire originated from a homeless camp that was set up underneath the bridge.
