Three people died and three others were injured after a crash in Marysville on Saturday.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday identified the three killed as 22-year-old Clint Waddell, 22-year-old Salma Ramirez-Lujano and 17-year-old Michael Mallison.

Waddell and Ramirez-Lujano were in a relationship and shared a 13-month-old son, who is currently in the ICU with injuries from the crash. Mallison, according to family, was a friend of Ramirez-Lujano's brother, who was one of the three people injured.

The Marysville Police Department said two vehicles were involved in a head-on crash on Highway 70 near 24th Street around 2:45 p.m., forcing the road to close in both directions for several hours.

Police said five people were in one vehicle, while the driver was the only person in the other vehicle.

The three people hospitalized suffered severe injuries. One of them had to be airlifted to the hospital, police said.

One passenger taken to the hospital was a minor, according to police, identified by Waddell's mother as his 13-month-old son.

Police confirmed to CBS Sacramento that speed is being investigated as a factor.

Marysville police are handling the investigation with help from the Yuba County Sheriff's Office.

Crash victim's mother remembers her son

Clint Jon Waddell was known by family and friends as Jon. His mother, Sherry Torres, spoke to CBS Sacramento days after the crash about her son.

"For me, it was like seeing my next generation, my legacy, my son. I was seeing my son grow old and raise his son, have time to go to the parks, the things that dads do," Torres said.

Torres said her son was born and raised in Sacramento, was a Kings fan, and had a sense of humor. She said that when he became a father in the last year that his world changed.

"I was seeing that he was breaking the chain. He was going to create a new legacy for our family name, for our bloodline," she said.

She said any positive thoughts are welcome as her grandson, Waddell's son, recovers.
