Three Arrested In Triple Shooting At Modesto Market
MODESTO, Calif. (CBS13) -- Police have arrested three known gang members suspected of shooting a family of three inside the family's Modesto market -- leaving two dead and the other critically injured.
Homicide detectives arrested 18-year-old Oloth Phommahaxay. Two juvenile males were detained shortly after the shooting. The suspects are all from Modesto, face two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and a gang enhancement.
The male victim died at the scene of the shooting and the two women were rushed to the hospital where the older woman died from her injuries, and the younger woman, reportedly the deceased couple's daughter, is in critical condition.
The victims' names have not been released, but authorities say they were the owners of the market.
Artemio Zamora said he was next door visiting his wife in a flower shop when bystanders rushed in asking for help.
Zamora called 911, ran to the market, and found the older man bleeding. "I don't know if it was a robbery or what, but it's pretty scary to hear that something happened just next door," he said.
"Obviously it was a very brazen, very violent assault that happened on these three individuals," said Modesto Police Sgt. Rick Armendariz.
A number of customers and friends of the victims expressed their sadness and said the neighborhood market was a wonderful place.
