Family Escapes As Fire Engulfs Home

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – An explosion jolted a Sacramento family awake this morning after a fire in their garage ignited some live power lines in their backyard, according to fire fighters.

The blaze broke out on Stephanie Avenue around 3:30 am.

The fire started in the garage of the family's home and spread to the kitchen. As the fire spread, it hit the live power line connected to the house and caused an explosion.

When fire fighters arrived, the family had safely gotten out of the house and flames could be seen from the freeway.

The intense fire caused the roof of the home to cave in.

Fire fighter have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
