Explosions, Fire Tear Through Metal Shop In Woodland

WOODLAND (CBS13) – Firefighters say a fire that ripped through a metal shop in Woodland overnight may be suspicious.

The fire was first reported around 3:30 a.m. Friday behind a home at County Road 98B east of Highway 16.

When firefighters arrived, the building was burning so hot, they had to go into defensive mode and only fight the blaze from the outside.

Firefighters had some challenges battling the blaze. They had to run 2,000 feet of hose to get water to the fire. Several explosions inside the building believed to be a propane tank.

Firefighters were watching for hot spots and still had not entered the building, which is now structurally unsound.

The homeowner is out of the state but has been notified.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire and say it could be suspicious after witnesses say they saw a car leaving the area around the time the fire began.

An RV, boat and machinery inside the metal shop were destroyed. However, the home was not damaged.
