One Dead In Sutter County Plane Crash
SUTTER COUNTY (CBS13/AP) – One person has died after a small crop dusting plane crashed into a marshy field in Sutter County Monday morning, according to officials.
The crash was reported at 6:40 a.m. in the area of 1600 Nicolaus Avenue in the Sutter County town of Nicolaus near Highway 70. The plane was dropping zinc fertilizer when it nose-dived and hit the ground.
Emergency crews at the scene confirm that one person has died. The victim is believed to be the pilot of the crop dusting plane.
The wreckage of the plane is in the middle of a muddy field, which is making the recovery and investigation more difficult.
Sutter County Undersheriff Jeff Pierce says the cause of the crash is not known. Witnesses reporting that the engine sounded fine.
It was first believed that one person had been taken to the hospital by helicopter, but that does not appear to be accurate.
The pilot has been identified as 50-year-old Nathaniel Allen Brown of Sacramento.
