Elverta Rescue Helps Blind Dog Find Home
ELVERTA (CBS13) - A rescue group thought it would never find a home for a blind dog, until two retired eye doctors came along.
"He was always available, but anybody we showed him to was not quite sure they wanted a blind dog," Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary Co-founder Jody Jones said.
It's a big responsibility for any owner. So Homeward Bound thought their rescue would be Bogey's home for the rest of his life.
When you first meet Bogey, you'd have no idea he's blind. He's incredibly full of life, running around and then he starts running into things.
"He's going for it. If he bumps into something, 'oh well.' Then, he bumps into something else, 'oh well,' " said Jones.
He's like a bull in a China shop, and that's what drew one couple to Bogey.
"Being that we're both eye doctors, we deliberately came up here looking for a dog that couldn't see," said David Brew.
Two retired eye doctors fell in love with Bogey.
"We know enough to know sight isn't a major barrier to anything," said Anita Brew.
The couple says, ironically, it was love at first sight.
"It's the sight of the heart. The heart knows," said Anita.
After just two weeks, Bogey already knows he's found a forever home.
"He'll just leap into your arms while you're watching TV and cover you in licks," said David.
They say Bogey's smile never leaves his face.
"He seems to be extremely appreciative that he has a home now," said David.
Homeward bound is appreciative too.
"It took us a little longer with this one, but we done good," said Jones.
Homeward Bound hopes Bogey's story will encourage others to adopt dogs with special needs.
