Elverta Man's Blunt Warning Deters Burglars

ELVERTA, Calif. (CBS13) -- A Sacramento County resident says a simple message to would-be crooks has proven effective.

After burglars hit his property years ago, Larry Buschette erected a sign on his property that speaks for itself. "Warning: Any burglar caught on this property will be shot and killed."

"It was 15, 20 years ago we got broken into, and I got mad and I put it up," Larry said.

Larry said he can't be sure any criminals have actually moved on after seeing the sign, but he hasn't had any problems since putting the sign up. "If I was a burglar, I think I might go next door," he added.

His neighbors love the sentiment and say Larry can back up his claims, which may protect their own homes.

"Something will happen if someone goes on that property," neighbor Elliott Adams said. "He's really good to have, makes you feel safe."

Adams added, "We want to put up a sign saying, 'This is guarded by the neighbor across the street.'"

The Sacramento County K9 Association posted a photo of the sign on their Facebook page, and collected dozens of positive comments within hours.

Larry said he has no plans to take the sign down any time soon.

"As long as the government spends more money on welfare than they do on law enforcement, it's going to stay," he said.
