Driver rescued after crashing down embankment off Auburn highway

AUBURN — Crews rescued a driver who crashed down into a 40-foot ditch along an Auburn highway, authorities said Monday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol's Auburn division said the driver suffered a medical emergency, which led to him crashing off the side of Highway 49 into an embankment near Marguerite Mine Road.

Rescue crews had to pull the driver, a man, from the vehicle, which fell into an area with heavy brush. It was not clear what the medical emergency was, but CHP said the man did not suffer further injuries.

Marguerite Mine Road was expected to be closed for a short while.
