Dozens Of Animals Found Inside Sacramento Home
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Dozens of cats and dogs were found inside a Sacramento residence after police received reports that the homeowners hadn't been seen for days.
Animal Control officers carried about 20 sick animals out of the home Tuesday evening after officers performed a welfare check in the College Greens neighborhood.
Sacramento police officers found up to 40 cats and 15 dogs inside the home.
The hoarding is illegal, according to authorities, but there are no signs of abuse or neglect and the animals had plenty of food and water.
Neighbors were surprised to hear how many pets were living inside the house, but animal control officers said there was a strong smell of waste inside the home.
The owners will be responsible for the costs of Tuesday's rescue -- approximately $1,400, according to authorities. Additional fines may be levied when police finish their investigation.
