Davis Police Warning: Watch Out For ATM Card Skimmers

DAVIS (CBS13) — Davis Police are warning people to be on the lookout for card skimming devices after one was found on a bank's ATM.

Devices like the one found on a River City Bank ATM hardly look suspicious, but they can lead to big losses for unsuspecting customers.

Janice Lott and her husband own the Newsbeat store on Third Street, next door to where police say a thief placed the skimmer earlier this week. Officers say the criminals were hoping to steal the data of customers,

She knew something was wrong when she saw a bank employee who was calling police in front of the bank.

"Because I'm a business person I thought maybe its a skimmer. Something happened there," she said.

Within minutes, Davis officers arrived and the devices was removed.

Davis Police suggest before looking to use an ATM, watch out if the machine appears loose, crooked or damaged. If that's the case, call the cops.

No arrests have been made in the case.
