Crowds Gather To March In Honor Of Martin Luther King Jr.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Across the country Americans are remembering Martin Luther King Jr. Today is the 25th anniversary of the federal holiday named for the slain civil rightsleader.

He is the only person to be honored with a national holiday who did not serve as a President, and soon he'll get his own memorial in Washington.

A full day of events honoring Martin Luther King Jr. is planned across the capitol city including:

Martin Luther King March – Oak Park Start
Oak Park Community Center (3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.)
Opening Ceremonies begin 8:00am
Oak Park March departs 8:30am
Arrives Sacramento City College approx. 9:15am
Departs Sacramento City College approx. 9:30am
Arrives Sacramento Convention Center (13th & K Sts) 11:30am
March/Rally/Review approx. 11:30am

Martin Luther King March – Grant High Start
Grant High School
1400 Grand Ave.
Sacramento, CA.
North March Route
The march in the north will begin at 8 a.m. and depart Grant High School at 9 a.m.

In honor of the holiday, Sacramento City and County offices and schools will be closed.
