UPDATE: Missing Hiker Found Safe In Yosemite National Park
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (CBS13) - A college student missing for three day in Yosemite National Park was found safe on Monday afternoon.
John Paul Chaufan Field was found safe and in good condition. He was spotted by the park's contract helicopter at about 3:15 p.m. near Edith Lake, about five miles east of Kibbie Lake, the point where he was last seen.
Once Chaufan Field was spotted by the helicopter, park rangers contacted him and found him to be unharmed and in good health. He was being transported from the backcountry to the Hetch Hetchy Ranger Station.
He was with a group of fellow University of California, Santa Cruz students on a backpacking trip that began Friday.
The group was camped at Kibbie Lake when they left for a day hike. However, Field decided not to join the group. That was the last place he was seen.
About 50 people and search dogs were on the ground in the area looking for him. A California Highway Patrol helicopter was assisting the park helicopter in the search from the air.
