Crews Search Russian River For Missing Driver
SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities are searching for a woman who may have driven into the Russian River while heading to her Santa Rosa hotel over the weekend.
Sonoma County sheriff's officials say 62-year-old Phyllis Bin was last seen driving from the Jenner restaurant where she had dinner with friends Saturday night. The Agoura Hills woman was supposed to follow them in her white minivan to Santa Rosa, but her friends told authorities that they lost her just south of Jenner.
Officials say the friends searched for her all night, then reported her missing Sunday morning.
Authorities found fresh tire tracks on a grassy shoulder of Highway 1 that overlooks the Russian River and an oil sheen in the water below.
Rough waters have prevented divers from going in, but crews plan to resume their search Monday.
