Colorado Theater Shooting Doesn't Stop Sacramento Moviegoers From Seeing Batman Film
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Movie theaters are on heightened alert after a shooting massacre at a Colorado theater's midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises."
We've been told police always keep a close eye on the Regal Natomas movie theater.
Management has had conversations with the police since the shooting, but it seems theaters in the Sacramento area for now aren't making major changes.
"I'm not worried in this city," said one movie attendee.
The Aurora, Colo., massacre seemed to be on everyone's minds today, even batman fans, who couldn't stay away from this summer's big blockbuster.
"I'm not gonna let it change my opinion. I think it's very sad, about what happened," said one fan.
So far, there have been few changes to security.
There was no visible change in any police presence at Friday's viewings and Batman fans, kids and adults, dressed up for the show.
"I'm a Batman fan, my house is pretty much everything Batman," said another fan.
AMC in Manteca is one of the local theaters making small changes after the attack.
Customers there will not be allowed to dress up or bring in fake weapons.
The theater will give refunds to customers who object.
Local law enforcement will not beef up security at local theaters.
The Sacramento Sheriff's Department has contracted out off-duty deputies to patrol an Elk Grove theater on weekends for years, but have not been asked to do more.
Dep. Jason Ramos says it would take major changes to prevent another incident.
"Barring, patting everyone down and having metal detectors and things like that, let's face it, it is not practical," said Ramos. "How do you stop something like this?"
