City Council To Consider Lifting Sacramento Artificial Turf Ban

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento City Council is looking at approving artificial turf in residential front yards.

Right now, city code says there must be live vegetation in the front and side yards in residential and nonresidential areas.

Artificial turf is currently banned. The prohibition has been on the books, in some form, since 1984.

The council has considering lifting the ban in the past during the height of California's historic drought.

Supporters say it would be a way for residents to save water. Critics have previously cited potential risks to human health, saying turf contains lead and other toxins.
