Chihuahua Stabbed To Death During Robbery

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A teen suspect has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a Chihuahua puppy to death while robbing a Sacramento home Thursday.

Marlena Young said she and her children returned to their home from a trip to the grocery Thursday afternoon and saw a familiar 15-year-old boy suddenly flee their garage when they opened the door.

"He just shot out of my house," Marlena said, identifying the suspect as a troubled boy from the neighborhood her family has helped before.

Marlena chased after him and help corner him with the help of neighbors until police arrived.

"The little boy had a knife and he was telling us, 'Get back, get back. I'm going to stab you all,' " Marlena said. "I said, 'Why did you break into my house? We tried to help you.' "

When the family inspected their home, they discovered their 4-month-old Chihuahua dead next to her doghouse, possibly slain with the knife held by the teen suspect.

Marlena said it would have been bad enough to lose the dog in an accident, but its senseless death left her at a loss to explain it to her children.

The suspect, whose identity is not being released due to his age, is facing charges of animal cruelty and felony burglary.
