Carmichael Neighbors Express Shock, Anger Over Alleged Child Predator's Arrest
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) - Neighborhood parents such as Marissa Keller were relieved but not completely at ease after news of the arrest of an alleged child predator caught on surveillance.
"It's too close to home, too real, too sad" Keller said. "This has been a big breach, I mean huge, we have a child that's been permanently scarred now."
Sacramento County sheriff's deputies say Matthew Jones, 18, broke into at least three different homes in the Carmichael neighborhood during the middle of the night, confronting children and in one case sexually assaulting one.
CBS13 has learned Jones lived at a nearby group home, licensed by the state to house juveniles on probation.
"If it was a one-time isolated incident, then OK, let's make sure we beef up security, make it safer, but three nights in a row? That's ridiculous."
Parents are in shock and angered that Jones allegedly was able to leave the home in the dead of night.
"It sounds to me like they've got a supervision problem that needs to be tightened up," one neighbor said.
According to the Department of Social Services, group homes offer 24-hour supervision. We've learned the home is run by a non-profit called "Martins' Achievement Place" a youth sexual assault center in based in North Highlands.
While they wouldn't confirm anything they did issue this statement: "Our policy, however, is to notify the proper authorities immediately and to cooperate if an allegation like this is made involving our youth."
Parents like Keller say that's not enough.
"They need to be accountable," she said. "You can't let stuff like this to happen."
