Campus Rallying Around Davis High Student Injured In Ski Accident

DAVIS (CBS13) — A Davis High School student on the ski team is recovering in a Reno hospital after a ski accident that could leave her paralyzed for life.

As she's undergoing treatment, she's getting some major support, including tens of thousands of dollars in donations for her medical bills as hundreds come forward to help.

Jillian Foster, 15, is known on the slopes as Killer Jiller. Her spirit is now inspiring the entire Davis High School campus to rally around her.

Foster has a broken back and spinal cord damage that could leave her unable to walk again after a ski accident at Boreal.

While skiing with friends, Foster overshot her group and hit a tree at full speed.

"It is just so sudden," said Davis High girls basketball coach Brett Anderson. "You never expect to have one of your students leave, and know that the next day their life could be so drastically changed by one situation."

As the school celebrates Kindness Week with messages reminding classmates to do something because they can, the girls basketball team is holding a fundraiser for Foster at their senior night. All money raised at the game will go to Foster's medical bills.

Word of the generosity has reached Foster in her Reno hotel room, and she's thankful for the help.

An online fundraiser has already raised nearly $40,000 in just three days.

Foster will spend the next couple of weeks at Renown Medical Center, then she'll likely be transferred to Shriner's Hospital in Sacramento for a three-month rehabilitation program.
