California Gambling Education and Treatment Services (CalGETS) - New in 2015
Group Counseling
• In addition to telephone counseling, outpatient, intensive outpatient and residential treatment services, CalGETS clients are now able to participate in group sessions.
• CalGETS group sessions are conducted by trained authorized outpatient providers. Group sessions are offered to both the gambler and individuals negatively impacted by the gambler's behavior.
• CalGETS clients may participate in 8 group sessions annually to aide in recovery.
Text Support
• A new feature added to the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline is text support.
• Now, 24-hours a day, you can text SUPPORT to 53342 and receive help for problem gambling at no cost (normal text messaging fees apply).
Also starting in early 2015, "Don't Ignore the Signs", a new problem-gambling awareness campaign featuring ads and public service announcements, will highlight the signs of problem gambling, such as debt, depression, lies, shame, guilt, anxiety and a feeling of hopelessness.
