California Corrections Officers Injured In Inmate Attacks At Represa Facility

REPRESA, Calif. (AP) - Three corrections officers at a Northern California prison have been injured in two inmate attacks.

State corrections spokesman Aaron Konrad says two inmates at California State Prison-Sacramento began stabbing another prisoner with a homemade weapon around 10:15 a.m. Thursday. As four officers tried to intervene, Konrad says one inmate blocked them and 10 others stood up and began hitting the officers.

Pepper spray and a warning shot ended the attack.

As inmates were being escorted back to their cells, Konrad says a prisoner hit an officer in the back of the head.

Two officers in the first melee were treated for elbow and wrist strains, while the officer hit in the head was being treated at a hospital as a precaution. The inmate who was stabbed is in fair condition.
