TRACY (CBS13) - The apparent firebombing of a mosque in Tracy has Muslim leaders calling on authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime.

According to a press release from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, fire damage was discovered on Saturday morning at the Tracy Islamic Center. CAIR says a Molotov cocktail looks to be responsible for the damage.

"The recent spike in hate incidents targeting mosques nationwide is unprecedented and should be of concern to all Americans," said CAIR-SV Executive Director Basim Elkarra in the release. "We urge law enforcement authorities to investigate this incident as a hate crime and to bring the perpetrators to justice."

CAIR notes that there have been a string of recent firebombings at mosques across the country.

Further, according to a new report from CAIR, there have been more than 70 incidents targeting mosques just this past year.
