Citrus Heights Officer Kills Bank Robbery Suspect
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - A man attempted to rob a bank in Citrus Heights on Wednesday afternoon but was shot and killed by a police officer as he tried to flee the scene.
The incident happened at about 4:15 p.m. at a Union Bank of California at 5748 Sunrise Blvd. Citrus Heights police surrounded the bank and an officer fatally shot the suspect as he came out. The suspect's name wasn't released by police.
There was a report of an explosive device inside the bank, which was evacuated along with nearby businesses. The Sacramento County Sheriff's bomb squad was called out but no device was found.
Northbound Sunrise was closed at Madison and southbound Sunrise at Macy Plaza for several hours while police investigated the scene.
The officer, whose name wasn't released, was placed on routine paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. No bank employees or officers were injured in the incident.
