Boy Wounded In Stockton Shooting
STOCKTON (CBS13) – A stray bullet grazed an 11-year-old boy's hand early Christmas morning inside his own home, and the motive for the shooting is still unclear, authorities said.
The Stockton Police Department said an unknown number of suspects drove by a South Stockton home at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday and fired more than 40 rounds into the residence.
A number of the bullets zipped straight through the home's walls, tearing through the bedroom of 11-year-old Jose Serrano, who dove to the ground amid the violence.
"They came to my house and shot for no reason," Jose said. "This is the baddest Christmas I ever had."
Despite the large number of rounds fired, only a single bullet hit Jose, wounding two fingers. Jose's mother, Maria, said she feared the worst but is relieved her son wasn't more seriously injured.
The family had only recently moved into the home and can't imagine what prompted the shooting, Maria said.
Authorities have not identified any suspects and are investigating whether another Stockton shooting earlier Sunday morning is related to the incident.
