BLOWOUT NIGHT IN AMERICA

We all love the NFL.  As fans we have tolerated the off the field issues.  Domestic violence, drugs, questionable behavior have all hit the NFL recently and as fans we seem completely unfazed.  The one thing we love is the product on the field.  The games, the teams, the story lines, the stats, the players, the coaches, we love it all.  One of the reasons why the game is so great is because of the unpredictability every weekend.  That is something though that is missing from it's Thursday night package.

5 weeks of Thursday night games and we have yet to see a game decided by less than 20 points. The average margin of victory on these games so far this season is 29 points.  I will watch any match up from any location but the second half of these games has been hard to tolerate.

The NFL is one of the best products we have out there, but we are not getting the best of the NFL on Thursday nights.  The normal rhythm of a football week is thrown off, especially for the road team.  Week 4 was the exception to that with New York's win over Washington, but it was still a blowout.

Television drives all this and the ratings have been great.  One idea might be to give the Thursday night teams a bye the week before playing.  I don't know if there is an exact answer for this but please let's not turn this into BLOWOUT NIGHT IN AMERICA.  We love our NFL, but just not this way.

So Roger Goodell has plenty of things on his plate, let's just hope the next couple of Thursday night games gives us the entertainment we want. That means you Houston and Indianapolis, or New York Jets vs. New England, followed by San Diego and Denver. Bring it boys.
