BART To Run Longer On New Year's Day

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — New Year's revelers in the San Francisco Bay area will have the option of using public transit to get home.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit agency will run trains until 3 a.m. on New Year's Day, three hours longer than it normally does.

BART spokesman Jim Allison says trains will run on their normal intervals during the extended hours. That means a train that usually arrives at a station at 11:00 p.m. will also arrive at midnight, 1 a.m., 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.

Caltrain and San Francisco's Muni system will offer free service on New Year's Day. The last Caltrain will leave San Francisco at 2:15 a.m. All trains will be free after 11 p.m.

Muni's light-rail service will be free until 6 a.m.
