Amtrak Launches Free Wi-Fi On NorCal Trains

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – All aboard and log on! Amtrak is now offering free Wi-Fi on three Northern California routes.

Beginning today, Cyber Monday, Amtrak customers on the Capitol Corridor, San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner trains can connect to the internet free of charge with any Wi-Fi enabled device.

Passengers can surf the web, access their e-mail and connect to corporate networks through their Virtual Private Networks.

"Free Wi-Fi is our early holiday gift to loyal train passengers who have wanted this service for some time," said Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority Managing Director David Kutrosky.

Amtrak says about 5.5 million people rode the three California state-supported trains during the 2011 fiscal year.
