UPDATE: Three People Detained In Connection With Apartment Homicide

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento Police have detained several people after surrounding a Sacramento apartment complex where a man was shot and killed on Monday night but have not made any arrests.

Officers first responded to the Woodlake Village Apartments at 100 Bicentennial Circle shortly after 7 on Monday night for reports of a shooting. They arrived to find a 19-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Tralane Thomas.

Early Tuesday morning, investigators came to believe the suspects might still be at the complex and SWAT officers quickly surrounded it, stopping any vehicles from entering and searching all vehicles that left the complex.

Just before 9 a.m., police handcuffed and detained two men and a woman who may be connected to the shooting which police are describing as a drug deal gone wrong.

"I wouldn't be surprised," neighbor David Grubbe told CBS13. "There's a lot of marijuana use going on here. I can't
see anything going so bad you had to take someone's life over it."

For much of the morning, officers checked every vehicle leaving the apartment complex. A group of children were led to their school bus parked outside and no one was allowed into the complex.

Some residents were forced to wait for hours. One woman told CBS13 that she was told she would have to wait six hours.

Police say they had to take every precaution, calling in SWAT and K9 officers just in case.

By 4 p.m., SWAT officers had cleared out and residents were allowed back in.
