279 Will Be Joining 916 Area Code In Sacramento
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The California Public Utilities Commission announced the 279 area code will be joining the 916 area code in Sacramento.
The PUC made the move to add a new area code as the region was running out of available prefixes. The current 916 area code is projected to run out in the first part of 2018.
The rollout is set to begin in September 2017 for customers requesting new phone numbers.
