UPDATE: Arrest Made In Murder Of Young Lodi Woman
LODI (CBS13) - Lodi Police detectives have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman over the weekend.
Lodi police officers responded to the 00 block of S. Garfield at about 11:43 p.m. Saturday on a report of multiple gunshot victims. They found Angelica Osorio unresponsive and she was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
A second victim, a 17-year-old boy, suffered several gunshot wounds but was expected to survive, police said. Investigators believe he was the target when another teenager got of a car in front of an apartment complex and started firing.
On Monday at around 8:30 p.m. detectives and officers were in a neighborhood that the 17-year-old homicide suspect was known to frequent. He was seen in a vehicle driving in the neighborhood and he was followed.
When the vehicle stopped, detectives and officers were able to get to the vehicle before the suspect was able to exit. He was arrested on a no-bail homicide warrant with gang enhancements. His name wasn't released because of his age.
"Right now we believe that the female victim happened to be standing with the other male, or just happened to be in area," said Lodi Police Lt. Fernando Martinez.
Eugenia Martinez, Angelica's cousin, was in disbelief. She said Angelica was a dedicated nursing student.
"A good girl at school, you know, trying to get a better life here, help her family," she said. "I'm like kind of dreaming, I don't think this is happening. How can they take her life?"
Detectives believe the incident was gang-related and that Osorio was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"We want justice for her because she was an innocent girl," Martinez said Sunday before the suspect's arrest. "I hope the Lodi Police Department will investigate and do justice for us."
