Best Pre-School Library Programs In Pittsburgh

Sure, the big kids may be back in school; but now that summer fun is done, you're probably looking for activities to do with your toddler or pre-schooler. Libraries all across Pittsburgh offer a number of enriching pre-school reading programs from story time to special clubs and events. There's no excuse for cabin fever. Why not head to a nearby library for some quality time with your child and to introduce the potential lifelong love of reading?

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is the largest library system in the city. It offers a variety of programming through the Children's Department, and programs are available among the system's 20 neighborhood libraries. The Pre-K Program is for children ages 3 – 5 years. Programs are 30 – 40 minutes long and encourage skills like active listening, creativity, socialization and communication. Examples include Imagination Builders: Builder Program and Cuentos y Canciones en Espanol: Story Time with Janina. Pre-school Storytime at the Sewickley Public Library is for children ages 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Groups will meet in the Storytime Room for 45 minutes. Activities go beyond just story telling. The Cranberry Public Library offers a number of program options for children. Pre-school kids are sure to enjoy Daytime Storytime. The classes are 45 minutes long and are full of fun activities like songs, fingerplays, puppets and art projects, in addition to stories. This program for 4 to 5 year olds is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Tuesday programs run from September 27th through November 1st, and Thursday programs are from September 29th through November 3rd. Registration begins September 12th.

The Northland Pubic Library offers storytime programs for pre-schoolers throughout the year. Programs last for 8 weeks at a time and are generally about two hours in length. Children and their caregivers will have a blast at these fun learning programs. No registration is needed, and kids can expect to interact in a positive learning environment of storytelling, crafts and games. Contact the library for program specifics. There is no cost.
