The China-born third wife of the media baron came to the United States in 1988 on a student visa. She was sponsored by an American family and studied at Cal State Northridge and the Yale School of Management. Her first media job was with Fox TV. She met Murdoch in Hong Kong in 1997. She was 29; he was 66.
