Dave spent the week at Beale Air Force Base in Roseville, Calif. training to ride along in a U-2 spy plane.
Just Hanging Around

Simulate an Escape
This is a mock U-2 cockpit, an antique that features painted dials. This cockpit, Dave says, is used to simulate escape from the plane's cramped quarters during an emergency.
Dave says, "The cockpit of my own ride from Avis. They wouldn't upgrade me to the U-2 - luckily Beale Air Force Base is close by."

This is the U-2 plane Dave will fly in Thursday. Only the astronauts at the International Space Station will be higher than Dave and his pilot.
Dave says, "Somehow People magazine missed this photo for the 'Sexiest Man Alive' issue."
