A new image taken by NASA's Wide-field Infrared Explorer shows the Rosette nebula located within the constellation Monoceros, or the Unicorn.
Image of flooding in Pakistan photographed from NASA's Terra satellite. The image on the left is from Aug. 8, 2009, and the one on the right is from Aug. 11, 2010. These false-color views display the near-infrared, red and green bands of the instrument as red-green-blue. This distinctly highlights the contrast between the water and vegetation on the river banks, because vegetation appears bright in the near-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Two extremely bright stars illuminate a greenish mist in this image from the Spitzer Space Telescope's "GLIMPSE360" survey. This mist is comprised of hydrogen and carbon compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which also are found here on Earth in sooty vehicle exhaust and on charred grills. In space, PAHs form in the dark clouds that give rise to stars. These molecules provide astronomers a way to visualize the peripheries of gas clouds and study their structures in great detail. They are not actually green; but are color coded in these images to allow scientists see their glow in infrared. This image is a combination of data from Spitzer and the Two-Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS).

Close-up view of the sky around the Sun-like star, HD 10180. This week astronomers discovered a planetary system containing at least five planets, orbiting HD 10180.
Simulation of violent tidal forces tearing the galactic disks apart, generating spectacular materials connecting the two galaxies. (Full story here
An artist's concept of two Saturn-sized planets in the Kepler-9 planetary system. NASA's Kepler spacecraft has discovered the first confirmed planetary system with more than one planet crossing in front of, or transiting, the same star.
Snow-capped volcanoes, composing the Islands of the Four Mountains in Alaska's Aleutian Island chain, photographed from the ASTER camera aboard NASA's orbiting Terra satellite.
Hydrogen sulfide and dust plumes on Namibia's coast captured on film by NASA's Terra satellite.
The floor of the moon's Anaxagoras crater photographed by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
Scientists studying this image of an elongated crater on Mars say they remain unclear about its origin. Orcus Patera, as it is named, covers quite a bit of territory (extending approximately 380 by 140 kilometers.)
Referred to as Hoag's Object, this extragalactic object is about 600 million light years away from us near the constellation of the Snake
The Mars Climate Sounder instrument on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter maps the vertical distribution of temperatures, dust, water vapor and ice clouds in the Martian atmosphere as the orbiter flies a near-polar orbit.
An image of the disk of material around the star Fomalhaut, with its planet seen in the insert (taken at two different dates).
